Fixes / Enhancements

• Line Endings
  Fixed TBO-11833: After saving/opening a document, line separators in the bar code data are not displayed correctly in the TBarCode Panel. Reason: The line endings are stored as LF, while the panel requires them as CR+LF. Note that the fix includes a conversion to CR+LF, which may affect the bar code data when the bar code is updated from the panel. If the data is updated automatically (e.g. via linked cell or a merge field), the line feed remains unchanged (usually an LF ASCII 0x0A).
• Swiss QR Code
  Trailing line feeds are now removed from manually entered data (TBarCode Panel).
• Templates
  The existing templates were newly updated from Barcode Studio 16; vCard 3.0 templates (escape sequences already enabled) and ITF 14 templates were added.
• Dependencies
  This version requires Microsoft .NET Framework 4.6.2 (or later) and MSVC Runtime Libraries 2019/v142 (or later). The latest Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable will be downloaded and installed automatically if the MSVC Runtime is not present.
• TBarCode Library
  This version uses TBarCode Library 11.15.1.

Fixes / Enhancements

• Group Policies
  Word Add-in: Fixed a crash in Microsoft Word if Office group policy "Automation Security ➔ Disable Macros by default" has been set. The fix is applied to Word 2016 and later.
  Excel Add-in: Fixed error message "Objects hidden" if Office group policy "Disable VBA" has been set. The fix is applied to Excel 2016 and later.
• Registry Settings
  Added global settings (HKLM) for update check and hide promotion. Note that user settings (HKCU) may override global settings.
• TBarCode Library
  This version uses TBarCode Library 11.13.0.

Fixes / Enhancements

• Reference Data
  Fixed Word Add-in: When editing the extended barcode properties, placeholders (e.g. references to mail merge fields) were removed from the barcode data.
• DLL Loading
  Fixed a potential DLL loading problem when TBarCode OCX (SDK V11) was embedded in the same document. The fix prevents both products from sharing the same static memory.
• TBarCode Library
  This version uses TBarCode Library 11.12.1.

• Mail Merge (Labels)
  Fixed Word Add-In: Bar codes at the end of a label mail merge (without data) are not removed from the label sheet.
• Refresh on Save
  Fixed Excel Add-In: Changes to the 'Refresh bar codes on save' option were only applied after an Excel restart.

• Royal Mail Mailmark® 2D (CMDM)
  - Fixed: Data Matrix properties (size) are not stored in the embedded symbol.
  - Fixed: Spaces at the end of the barcode data were removed.

  Improved default settings (X dimension, escape sequences) for NTIN and PPN health care bar codes.

New Barcode Types

• Swiss QR Code 2.0
  Implemented Swiss QR Code version 2.0 based on Swiss Payment Standards 2019.
• DotCode Rev. 4.0
  A rectangular 2D code which encodes data in an array of nominally disconnected dots. The dots are aligned diagonally on a grid. The code supports data formats like GS1 Application Identifiers, several industry formats and data envelopes.
• Han Xin Code
  A 2D matrix code with special support for the Chinese character set GB18030. It has a capacity of up to 4350 ASCII characters.
• Postal Codes
  Newly added postal codes: Royal Mail Mailmark® 2D, Royal Mail 4-State Mailmark™, USPS Intelligent Mail Package
• Pharmacy Barcodes
  Newly added PPN Code (Pharmacy Product Number) and NTIN Code (National Trade Item Number), both are Data Matrix based codes used in the pharmaceutical industry.
• Data Matrix DRME
  Data Matrix has been extended with the rectangular symbols from the latest DMRE standard (ISO/IEC 21471).

Enhancements

• Simplified User Interface
  The advanced barcode settings are now accessible via a floating property grid. The available properties have been extended and are easier to set.
• Mail Merge
  The serial letter function has been revised and now has improved stability. Logging has been refined as well.
• Less Dependencies
  No embedding of ActiveX Controls in order to improve stability.
• Upward Compatibility
  All EMF bar codes embedded with the previous version (starting with V10.9.0) can be accessed also from V11.
• TBarCode Library
  This version uses TBarCode Library 11.11.5.

Fixes

• Word Documents in MSIE
  Fixed TBO-10357: Crash if Word is opened from within Microsoft Internet Explorer (embedded mode). In connection with the fix, the conversion of ActiveX controls to EMF barcodes must be disabled in the add-in options!
• Unwanted Save Changes Dialog
  Word-Add-In: Fixed a problem where a document is treated as modified (only by accessing a 'Shape') without having changed anything.

  Fixed: Option 'Strip leading and trailing whitespace' applied only after selecting a different bar code type.

  Fixed a problem with creating zero-sized bar codes if a user modified his regional settings (en-us).

  Fixed: The Office x64 editions do not include a standard font dialog in the properties dialog. As a workaround, an additional font dialog for x64 versions was added to the TBarCode panel.

  Excel Add-In: Improved handling of conversion errors.
• Protected Sheets
  Excel Add-In: Support updating barcodes in protected sheets if "Edit Objects" is allowed.
• Collapsed Barcodes
  Excel-Add-In: Fixed zero-width barcodes after printing. Saving the barcode property string was affected by user-defined regional settings.

  - Fixed: "Member not found" error when inserting or updating an EMF bar code.
  - Fixed: Barcodes are unselected when inserted or after "select all" operation.

Minor Fixes / Improvements

• Excel Add-In: Error Handling
  - Improved error message if objects are hidden.
  - Improved error output for EMF barcode update on printing.
  - Changed strategy for on print errors (bar code update fails) => Allow user to override/continue.
  - Added delay to bar code refresh operation in case of DOM not ready (0x800AC472, VBA_E_IGNORE).
• Transparent Barcodes
  Fixed: On some systems, the EMF barcodes in Microsoft Excel were always drawn transparently (even with background mode "Opaque"). The fix changes the GDI draw mode for the background rectangle (using TBarCode OCX 10.2.12).

Enhancements

• Microsoft Office 2019
  The add-in is compatible with Microsoft Word 2019 and Microsoft Excel 2019.
• EMF Bar codes
  Word/Excel Add-In: Now bar codes are embedded as EMF pictures instead of ActiveX^® Controls. EMF images have a smaller "footprint" regarding system resources and are the recommended workaround for stability issues and crashes we recently encountered in Word or Excel when using ActiveX Controls (e.g. if you open two documents in parallel, Word or Excel may suddenly close). The method of embedding bar codes - either by ActiveX Control or EMF pictures - can be managed in the add-in options.
• Conversion Wizard
  For an easy transition to EMF barcodes, users of the Word and Excel add-in will see a conversion popup when they open a document with TBarCode 10 ActiveX Controls. On demand, embedded ActiveX Controls can be converted to EMF pictures automatically. The auto-conversion of documents can be disabled in the add-in options.
• Linked Cell for EMF
  Excel Add-In: Now EMF barcodes support data binding to a cell (Linked Cell). Linked bar codes are updated automatically before printing and (on demand) also on saving. From now on EMF bar codes are a fully functional alternative to ActiveX Controls and avoid their higher resource consumption and stability issues.
• Persistent Barcode Settings
  The last values from Barcode Settings are stored now in registry. Next time, the panel is opened, the previous settings are loaded as default.
• Update Notification
  The add-in checks online for updates and notifies the user in the TBarCode Panel status bar (can be disabled in the add-in options).
• Refresh Barcodes
  Word Add-In: A new "Refresh Barcodes" button in the TBarCode Panel updates all bar codes in the document - especially useful for refreshing dynamic values from placeholders. Improved as well: The bar codes in the current document are updated automatically after licensing.
• VSTO Package (Setup)
  Updated VSTO Runtime to 10.0.60828 (1/12/2018)

Fixes

• Mail Merge
  - Avoiding the Clipboard for mail merge to printer - this improves stability in Word 2013 and 2016.
  - Fixed: Mail merge slightly scales barcode size.
• Empty Barcodes
  Fixed: Empty bar codes when opening the TBarCode Panel in Microsoft Excel^®. This problem was caused by some screen drivers in combination with Excel design mode. The rendering of EMF barcodes is also affected by the problem. To deal with rendering problems in the future, also a new draw mode has been added.
• Clipboard
  Fixed: Copy to Clipboard may truncate bar code (last bar too small).
• Help File
  Fixed: Help file not found in case of "All Users" installation.
• Num Lock Key
  Fixed: Inserting a bar code in the Excel Add-In disabled the Num Lock key.

Known Problems

• Mail Merge
  Word-Add-In: Free floating EMF pictures (e.g. wrapping style "in front of text") can lose their anchor position during a mail merge. Please note that only the wrapping style "inline with text" is officially supported for mail merges.
• Windows Compatibility
  There are compatibility problems with Windows 10 version 1803 and the TBarCode 10 ActiveX Control (used by the add-in). With the help of the Program Compatibility Troubleshooter of Windows 10 you can run Word and Excel in a compatibility mode for a previous Windows version - this may solve the issue temporarily. The final solution would be to use EMF pictures in Word and Excel as supported by the 10.9 add-in version.

Fixes

• Improved setup: „all users“ option
  A bug of the „all users“ option was fixed. The add-in is now installed either in HKCU or in HKLM and no longer in both registry hives. In this way, problems with add-in registration can be avoided in some cases.
• New VSTO package
  Updated VSTO runtime to 10.0.60825 (11/9/2016)

Enhancements

• Support for EMF in Excel Add-In
  You can now embed bar codes as EMF images instead of ActiveX Controls. EMF images reduce the required system resources and are a workaround for the massive GDI object handle leak with ActiveX Controls in Microsoft Excel© 2016. This handle leak can freeze Excel when you insert a high number of barcodes, open print preview or just scroll through the document. You can switch to the new EMF barcodes in the Options menu. Linking the barcode to a specific cell is currently only possible with ActiveX Controls but we try to support this feature also with static EMF barcodes in a later version.
• Upgraded to .NET Framework 4.5
  The Add-In is now based upon .NET Framework 4.5 (Visual Studio 2015).

Fixes

• Scaled Barcode Size in Word Add-In during Mail Merge
  A mail merge into a new document may scale the bar code size in the final document - typically by a factor of 72/96. One possible reason for this problem is that the size unit of the embedded EMF image has been changed from Point (72 dpi) to Pixel (96 dpi). The behavior may depend on graphics drivers and the used Word version. To correct this problem the unit for the EMF size calculation has been set to Pixel now, for backward compatibility there is an option to turn off Pixel unit in the Add-In options.
• Distorted Barcode Size in Excel
  There is an issue with Excel when you place an image in an Excel spreadsheet and then print it. The image appears distorted, thus the ratio of the image is changed. This can affect the readability of square 2D codes like Data Matrix or QR Code. As a workaround we scale the bar code image after inserting it and set its width to 90%, a factor, which should compensate the enlargement when printing. This workaround is currently supported for EMF images and can be activated in the Add-In options.
• Insert Barcode from the Ribbon
  Add-In for Microsoft Excel: The [Insert Barcode] button from the ribbon uses the data from the current selection now. Previously - if the add-in panel was not visible - the data from the actual cell was ignored.
• Silent Setup for Current User
  The new command line option "ADDIN_CURRENTUSER=1" installs the add-in under the current user registry hive only. The automatic installation under HKLM (all users) for Office 2010 and later is ruled out by this parameter.

Fixes

• Installing Office customization shows Manifest Error
  With elder Microsoft Office or Windows versions you may see an error "Exception reading manifest from file <path to VSTO file>" during installation. The setup installs now an updated version of the Microsoft VSTO Runtime and requires Microsoft .NET 4.5 (or higher) as a prerequisite in order to fix the problem. If you still see the error, please install the VSTO Update separately.

Fixes

• Crash in Microsoft Word / Excel
  Fixed: Access violation when closing Microsoft Word or Excel (visible in Event Viewer). The problem has been verified with Microsoft Office 2013 and 2016 but may occur also in other versions.

Enhancements

• Letter Mail Merge
  Text wrapping style "In Front of Text" is supported for bar code objects during a letter mail merge. The barcode must be configured inline with text and then switched to in front of text for positioning.
• Trim Carriage Return / Line Feed
  Add-In for Word: Trim CR/LF from bar code data for codes which do not support CR/LF.

Fixes

• Range Cannot Be Deleted
  Add-In for Word: Fixed "Range cannot be deleted" error in case of multiple text boxes.
• Wrong Barcode Category
  Fixed wrong category for PDF417, MicroPDF and MaxiCode in barcode list box (TBarCode panel).

Enhancements

• Microsoft Office 2016
  The add-in is compatible with Microsoft Word 2016 and Microsoft Excel 2016.
• GUI Facelift
  The TBarCode Office Add-In was modernized.
• Escape Sequences
  Microsoft Word Add-In: Escape sequences for special characters (like FNC1) can be added through the Insert Field wizard.
• Encoding Data from Bookmarks
  Bookmarks can be referenced with the place holder format: [@!Bookmark]. The content of the bookmark will be encoded in the bar code while printing.
• System Resources
  Added monitoring of system resources (free GDI objects) during bar code generation. A warning is displayed if the available GDI objects are running low. On demand the user can disable warnings in the Add-In options.

Fixed

• TBarCode Panel in Excel
  Excel Add-In: In Microsoft Excel 2013 and Microsoft Excel 2016 only one TBarCode Panel could be opened at a time. If more documents were opened, only the panel in the first document was accessible. The problem had been caused by changes in the document interface of Excel 2013 (SDI instead of MDI).
• Minor Fixes
  Several fixes regarding stability and error handling have been applied.

Enhancements

• Content Controls
  Content controls and legacy form fields can be referenced with a new place holder format: [@!TagName] or [@!Bookmark].
• Print Date
  The actual print date / time can be insert into the bar code with a new (virtual) document property [@Print date].
• User Manual
  The user manual has been updated with actual screen shots (e.g. Word 2013, Excel 2013).

Fixed

• Wrong default height in RM4SCC and KIX Code
• Problem with partial place holders or not properly enclosed place holders (e.g. "docprop][@docprop][@docprop").
• Title of task pane truncated in Office 2013.

Enhancements

• License Key Deployment
  Now license keys are read from 32 and 64 bit registry hives. Thus deployment of license keys in HKEY local machine (for Site or Enterprise licenses) is simplified.
• Setup for all Users
  The setup routine pre-selects the all users option in case of Office 2010 and Office 2013. If Office 2007 is detected, the all user option will remain unchecked.
• Polish User Interface
  The TBarCode Panel is now available in Polish language (in Polish Office versions).

Fixed

• Embedded Excel Documents
  Embedded Excel sheets are blocked if you double click them in Microsoft Word. The issue is caused by the initial bar-code redraw event of the Excel Add-In. The implemented workaround avoids the redraw by verifying the "-Embedding" command line. Please be aware that if Excel is already running, this workaround has no effect. In that case you need to end all Excel instances before opening the embedded document (also check hidden Excel instances with Task Manager).
• Add-In Not Loaded
  A problem reading the System-ID has been solved. This problem inhibited the Add-In to be loaded.

Enhancements

• Adobe® Acrobat® Pro Compatibility
  Word Add-In: Improved compatibility with Adobe Acrobat X & XI Pro. In certain cases Microsoft® Word experienced a crash after creating a PDF with the Adobe Acrobat Word-Add-In. The implemented workaround omits the function call which caused the problem (VSTO 4.0 function "GetVstoObject").

Fixes

• Horizontal Lines
  Word Add-In: Error message "This member cannot be accessed on a horizontal line" when printing a document containing a horizontal line.
• Option Dialog
  Word Add-In: The "Disable Warnings" option cannot be changed.

Enhancements

• VBA Compatibility
  Excel Add-In: VBA programmers can prevent Excel from switching to Design mode (may occur during Workbook Activate) if they temporary set “Application.ScreenUpdating = False”. This allows VBA code to be run without interruption as long as the user does not open the TBarCode Panel or insert a bar code.

• ScreenUpdating Flag
  Excel Add-In: The "Redraw On Open" option changes the state of the Excel screen updating flag.
• Templates
  Template files (*.BC) from Barcode Studio V15 cannot be imported correctly.

Enhancements

• Content Type Properties
  Now you can reference "Content Type Properties" (server or meta properties) the same way as other document properties (which have been introduced in 10.4.0).
• Options Dialog
  Excel Add-In: A new options dialog with the following settings has been added: remove whitespace, ignore empty cells, insert multiple bar codes, disable warnings, no redraw.
• Improved Warnings
  Word Add-In: A warning has been added if the user tries to edit a bar-code control with unsupported wrapping styles.
  Excel Add-In: Improved the redraw warning message (cannot update bar code size) on startup.
• Use TBarCode OCX 10.2.9
  The add-in utilizes the TBarCode OCX 10.2.9 Barcode ActiveX Control (see TBarCode SDK version history).

Bug Fixes

• Horizontal Line Error
  Word Add-In: Mail merge stops with an error if the document contains a horizontal line.
• Framed Paragraphs
  Word Add-In: Error message (get_PageWidth) if you insert a bar code into a framed paragraph.
• VC90 Open MP DLLs
  Missing Open MP DLLs could prevent the add-in from loading. The VC90 Open MP DLLs have been added to the setup.

Enhancements

• Trim White Space
  Excel Add-In: All leading and trailing white space characters (newline, carriage return and space) are removed from the bar code data. Feature can be disabled on demand.

Bug Fixes

• Scaled Barcodes in Excel
  Excel Add-In: Barcode size is scaled depending on screen resolution. The problem was caused by Excel not updating the cached image of the bar code control. The implemented workaround forces Excel to update the bar code controls in the open event. This behavior can be disabled via registry key.
• Linked Cell Update
  Excel Add-In: Bar codes are not updated with linked cell content after "Redraw Barcodes", template selection or changing advanced properties. In order to fix this problem linked cell data is now re-applied to the bar code controls.

Enhancements

• Rotated Barcodes
  Word Add-In: Rotated Barcodes are now supported.
• Disable Warnings
  Word Add-In: A new option for disabling warning notifications has been added.
• Improved Demo Dialog
  The demo and license dialogs were improved.

Fixes

• Enlarged Barcodes
  Word Add-In: Enlarged bar codes during mail merge into New Document. The problem appeared in Word 2010/2013 compatibility mode when opening documents created with previous versions of Word.
• Flickering Bar Codes in Word 2013
  Word Add-In: Newly inserted bar code objects are drawn by Word over and over until all bar code properties have been set. Although this is by design of Word 2013 some enhancements in the Add-In were able to reduce this effect. Previous versions of Word do not have this problem.
• Disabled Design Mode
  Word Add-In: Reopening a document disables the bar code design mode (when clicking a bar code). It turned out that the problem is due to a bug in the .NET 4.0 VSTO runtime. The implemented workaround also fixes the missing design mode when dobule clicking a Word document or enabling/disabling the add-in through Word options.

  Word Add-In: Templates were not listed (wrong search path).

Enhancements

• VSTO 4.0 Runtime
  The Word and Excel Add-Ins are now based upon VSTO 4.0 from Microsoft. This update of the VSTO runtime should improve user experience and reduce problems with inactive add-ins significantly. The add-in now requires Microsoft .NET Framework 4 to be installed. The new prerequisite "Visual Studio 2010 Tools for Office Runtime" has been included in the setup.
• TBarCode OCX 10.2.7
  The Add-In is now based upon the TBarCode OCX 10.2.7 Barcode ActiveX Control (see TBarCode SDK version history).

Fixes

• Mailmerge Log
  Word Add-In: In some cases the temporary mail merge log file was not deleted (e.g. if a user stopped the mail merge after a resize warning).
• Windows 8
  The installer was fixed for Windows 8 support.
• TBarCode Task Pane
  Excel Add-In: With enlarged screen fonts the data text box overlapped the Link To Cell button.
• Template File
  The wrong font settings were loaded from the template file (BC file).

Fixes

• Barcode Height
  Word Add-In: When inserting a new bar code, the barcode control was always set to a minimum height of 25 mms (task pane settings were ignored).

Enhancements

• Encode Document Properties
  Word document properties can be encoded via placeholders (e.g. [@Author]) in the bar code data. The placeholders are resolved when printing the document.
• Deploy TBarCode Office to All Users
  The setup has an option to deploy the add-in to all users of a machine. This is achieved by registering the add-in in HKLM instead of HKCU. Local machine registering is supported in Office 2010 by default and in Office 2007 after applying a Hotfix (see KB976811).
• Use TBarCode OCX 10.2.6
  The Add-In is now based upon the TBarCode OCX 10.2.6 Barcode ActiveX Control. For details about the enhancements and fixes in 10.2.6 see the TBarCode SDK version history.
• User Interface
  Word-Add-In: Validate cursor position when inserting new placeholders; Remove mail merge placeholders in documents having no mail merge data source; Notify user about bar code control updates before printing a document. Excel-Add-In: Select all (new) barcode controls after insert operation (for dragging them into the desired position).

Fixes

• Mail Merge Preview
  Barcodes in text boxes were not updated during printing from a mail merge preview.
• Task Pane Not Updated
  The task pane was not updated after changing the bar code data in advanced properties. Now the task pane will be updated if the data does not contain merge fields or document properties.

Known Problems

• Mail Merge fails with non OLE DB data connections
  Data sources must be connected via OLE DB connection in order to retrieve all records properly.
• Barcodes Resized in Excel
  Depending on the screen resolution of the workstation, bar codes controls are rendered differently in size (by design of Excel). Workaround: Make sure that all PCs using the product have the same screen resolution.

Bug-Fixes

• Unlicensed Barcodes in Word 2010
  After selecting a bar code (or switching to Design mode) some bar codes were displayed with demo insert (although the product was successfully licensed).

Enhancements

• Temporary Licenses for Evaluation Purposes
  A temporary evaluation license can be requested online for free. Such an evaluation license is valid for a period of 10 days and unlocks the complete product.
• New Templates
  The template list is extended by vCard templates in various sizes.
• TBarCode OCX 10.2.3
  The Add-In is now based upon TBarCode OCX 10.2.3 (Barcode ActiveX Control - see Enhancements of TBarCode OCX).

Enhancements

• Additional Measuring Unit [Mils]
  Width, height and module width can now be displayed in mils (0.001 inch) and in millimeters. Switch between the units by clicking on the unit name in the panel.
• Licensing on Terminal Server
  Support licensing in one central registry location for Terminal Server environments.
• Silent Setup
  Setup can now be run in "silent mode" without user interaction (by adding specific command line parameters).
• Key Combinations in Size Fields
  Using Ctrl+A, Ctrl+C and Ctrl+V in width, height and module width input fields is now supported.
• TBarCode OCX 10.1.0
  The Add-In is now based upon TBarCode OCX 10.1 (Barcode ActiveX Control) with new bar code types Brazilian CEPNet and VIN/FIN.

Bug-Fixes

• Advanced Settings
  Deselecting a barcode and clicking Advanced Settings displayed wrong sizemode and font settings.
• Mail Merge Column Names
  Similar column names in mail merge data sources (e.g. "Article" and "ArticleNo") could lead to an error.
• Wrong Decimal Point
  Wrong decimal point recognition on systems with South African regional settings (permanent errors).
• Setup Excel Add-In
  Selecting only the Excel Add-In during TBarCode Office setup did not install all required files.

Known Problems

• Mail Merge fails with non OLE DB data connections
  Data sources not configured as OLE DB connection may lead to unexpected behavior (e.g. not all records can be processed) - see also our FAQ.

Enhancements

• Default Settings
  Added/corrected missing default settings (size, module width etc) for some Postal and Pharma Codes.
• Escape Sequences
  GS1 bar codes (GS1-128, GS1 DataBar...) translate escape sequences like \F now by default.
• File Access Error
  Increased reading time out for EMF files to avoid blocked file access caused by Antivirus software. Problem occurs with Merge To New Document only.

Word Add-In Bug-Fixes

• Copy To Clipboard
