Templates for the labels customers ask for

Automotive customers name the label in their supplier manuals. SEG Automotive's 2018 manual lists VDA and Odette for Europe, AIAG for North America. Röchling's December 2024 manual asks for Odette or VDA 4902 labels but accepts AIAG B-10 in North America.

The directory covers these standards and manufacturer labels such as Caterpillar SP20. Its templates come in A5 and 210 × 74 mm, the sizes SEG's manual sets for Europe, and in 4 × 6 inch.

Each template fixes the label size and every barcode's type, position and size. In TEC-IT's automotive templates, barcodes typically start with a data identifier (DI): P for part number, Q for quantity, V for supplier.

TEC-IT's GS1 templates use Application Identifiers (AI), such as (00) for the Serial Shipping Container Code (SSCC). Their GS1-128 has a 0.495 mm narrow bar, GS1's target for logistic units, and bars about 32 mm high, above the 31.75 mm minimum. Before rendering, they check the length of your entries: an SSCC must have 17 or 18 digits.

Online, you fill in one label at a time and print the copies you need. Signed in, you keep many labels' data in a data sheet, imported from a file or typed in, and print from it.

At volume, TEC-IT's TFORMer software prints the same kind of template: the online ones are TFORMer layouts. TFORMer Designer adapts a layout, TFORMer Workstation prints from Excel or CSV, and TFORMer Server prints unattended on requests from SAP or Oracle.

Is online label printing free?
Yes: fill in a template and download the label as PDF, PNG or JPEG, with no account and nothing to install. Signing in adds data sheets for printing many labels from one list.
Which label do I need?
For deliveries, the one your customer's supplier manual names. For German automotive customers, VDA recommends the Global Transport Label VDA 4994 (July 2023), while the older VDA 4902 goods tag is still widely used. Odette labels serve European customers, and SEG Automotive's 2018 manual, for example, names AIAG labels for North America. GS1 logistic labels identify pallets and cartons by their SSCC. TEC-IT also has templates for Galia ETI.9 labels, manufacturer labels such as Ford GTL, asset tags, US Nutrition Facts labels and Swiss and Austrian payment slips.
Should I print VDA 4902 or VDA 4994?
Print the one your customer's manual names. If it accepts both, VDA's rating can decide: in August 2024, VDA, the German Association of the Automotive Industry, rated VDA 4994 (version 2.0, July 2023) its current recommendation and VDA 4902 (version 4 from 1996, additions 2012) no longer recommended but still used. TEC-IT's VDA 4994 templates carry Code 128 and DataMatrix, its VDA 4902 templates Code 39. Dräxlmaier, for one, switched from VDA 4902 to VDA 4994 in its requirements of January 2026.
Which barcodes do industry labels use?
Mostly Code 39 or Code 128 in TEC-IT's templates, often with a DataMatrix or PDF417 that holds several fields. In these templates, VDA 4902, Odette OTL 1 and AIAG B-10 use Code 39, Galia uses Code 128, and GS1 logistic labels use GS1-128.
Can I change a template or design my own label?
Not online: the label generator fills in the fields of a fixed layout. TFORMer Designer, TEC-IT's label design software, comes with VDA, AIAG, Odette, GTL and GS1 layouts to adapt and lets you design new ones.
