What is a VDA 4992 label?
A VDA 4992 label, or MAT label, carries a part's traceability data on its smallest package, from reel or bag to wire box. VDA, the German Association of the Automotive Industry, published version 1.0 in English in September 2015. Its Data Matrix code holds up to 22 data elements.
What TEC-IT's VDA 4992 template prints
The 78 × 45 mm template prints 19 captioned fields, part number and quantity in bold, and a RoHS logo for Y.
Its Data Matrix code adds label version, revision and manufacturer ID, in VDA's order of data identifiers (DIs) under an ISO/IEC 15434 header.
Who asks for VDA 4992, and why
Odette sees MAT labels mainly between tier 2 and tier 1 suppliers. Bosch makes VDA 4992 its standard MAT label.
The aim is batch-level traceability, with manufacturer data kept apart from supplier data. Customers scan each label at goods receipt unless an eMAT message brings the data.
One MAT label per package
Each package needs a unique package ID, so copies of one label won't do. After a free sign-in, a data sheet holds one row per package.
At volume, TFORMer Server prints from ERP data, SAP included, and TFORMer Workstation imports CSV. Adapt agreed sizes in TFORMer Designer.

How VDA 4992 relates to other labels
The GTL on the transport package. The MAT label complements it; where one package is both, the GTL can carry the MAT data.

The fields of a VDA 4992 label
TEC-IT's template prints no field numbers, so rows 1–20 follow the label from top left; rows marked — go into the code only. Barcode shows the DI in the Data Matrix code. Max. length is VDA's limit, which the template does not check. Leave unused optional fields empty: with every field at full length, the code's module falls below VDA's 0.25 mm minimum.
