What is a VW GTL label?
A VW GTL label is the Global Transport Label (GTL) that Volkswagen (VW) wants on each load unit and the parts containers inside it. For material deliveries, VW accepts only GTLs to VDA 4994: a Code 128 license plate identifies each package, a DataMatrix carries its data. TEC-IT's seven older VW templates cover VW's 2010 GTL with a PDF417 and the VW/Audi goods tag.
Why VW plants check your GTL
Since April 2022, Volkswagen Group plants have checked each supplier's label against VDA 4994 and its despatch advice against VDA 4987; a positive check earns a plant approval. Since November 2022, VW's guideline also covers deliveries to Porsche.
Label, despatch advice and shipment document (VDA 4939) must agree, so goods receipt can book a package by its license plate. Old label versions cause manual work, which VW may charge for.
VW's 2010 GTL and what has changed
Six of TEC-IT's VW templates reproduce Volkswagen's 2010 GTL guideline. The single label's Code 128 holds only the license plate, 1JUN049977473123456789 in the sample. A PDF417 top right repeats it among ten data elements, from the guide ID 12SGTLVWAG02 to the batch (1T).
VW's current label keeps the license plate and nearly the same grid. But a DataMatrix replaces the PDF417, the label type (S, M or MIX) prints top right, and the readable plate omits the DI.
From one VW label to a full shipment
Without an account, the generator fills in one label and prints the copies you set, such as a container's second label. For a shipment, sign in for free and list the packages in a data sheet; a sequence numbers the nine-digit serials.
In series supply, print from your despatch advice: VW's 2024 short guide warns that documents from separate systems can differ. TFORMer Server prints on request from SAP or Oracle, TFORMer Workstation maps Excel or CSV columns, and TFORMer Designer adapts GTL layouts.

Clear the routing, supplier-field and customer-data samples: VW currently uses no routing or customer references. The templates check few field lengths; the receiving plant approves the result.

When the older templates still apply
VW's platform no longer lists the 2010 guideline and files all its GTL documents under VDA 4994. Print these templates only if your receiving plant asks for them.
TEC-IT's VW/Audi tag is a VDA 4902 variant: field 11 holds the customer's packaging number (B), field 15 always DI G.
The fields of VW's 2010 GTL single label
TEC-IT's 2010 single label prints no field numbers, so the numbers are TEC-IT's own, in block order, matching the markers above. Captions appear as printed, mostly in German, or as the editor caption where none prints. Content and Max. follow Volkswagen's 2010 guideline; the template checks no lengths.
