Choose the template by sheet number
Open the template named after the number on your Avery Zweckform pack, such as 3666 or L4732.

Keep the barcode data short
The barcode always fills its box, so each extra character thins the bars. On the 3666, up to 9 characters keep the Code 39 narrow bar at 0.19 mm or wider.

Set Copies to the sheet and print at actual size
For 65 identical labels on a 3666 sheet, enter 65 copies and export a PDF. Print it at 100%, or the labels no longer line up with the die-cuts.
What is an asset label?
An asset label, or asset tag, ties a piece of equipment to its entry in your property records. It carries an identification number as text and as a barcode, often with the owner's name. TEC-IT's templates print it on five Avery Zweckform A4 sheets with 21 to 80 labels, or as single labels from 38 × 13 mm.
Owner, number and Code 39 on 38 × 21 mm
On TEC-IT's 3666 template, marker 1 is Text 1, bold on a red band across the top, typically the owner's name. Marker 2, Text 2, is the inventory number people read. Marker 3 is the Code 39 barcode with its characters underneath.
Barcode and inventory number are separate inputs: the sample encodes 1234567890 but prints A-00001 as text. Enter the same number in both when scanned and printed values must match. Code 39 is self-checking, so no check character is added.
US federal awards and other uses
Recipients of US federal awards, other than states and Indian Tribes, must record each equipment item's serial or other identification number, location, use and condition. 2 CFR 200.313 adds a physical inventory, reconciled with those records, at least once every two years.
Equipment there means tangible property with a useful life of over a year that costs at least $10,000 per unit, or less under your capitalization level. TEC-IT's samples show other uses: “Do Not Remove” over “Plant Equipment”, a serial number with MAC address and station ID, a building and room line.
Many asset numbers, one PDF
After a free sign-in, list your asset numbers in a data sheet, one row per item, and print the rows as one PDF. The labels fill the sheet row by row from the top-left position.

Before you print a full sheet
- Test on plain paper. Print the PDF and hold the page over a label sheet against the light. On the 3666, the first label starts 9.75 mm from the left and 10.7 mm from the top.
- Scan the first labels. With 10 characters, the 3666's Code 39 falls below TEC-IT's Barcode Reference. Its narrow bar is 0.18 mm (0.19 mm specified) and its bars 4.9 mm high (6.3 mm). The bars end 2.0 and 1.1 mm from the label edges, where the reference specifies a quiet zone of ten narrow bars, at least ¼ inch.
- Start with a fresh sheet. Every export begins at the top-left label, so a partly used sheet would print over its gaps.
