Restart problems with the HP Universal Print Driver
The following problem can occur if printing was previously done via an HP Universal Print driver and a process hpmup081.bin is active in Task Manager.
After a restart via Spooladmin or via a TECLauncher service restart, the Print Server no longer comes back up. The event log shows messages such as:
- PrintServer is already running. The just started instance is exiting. Please check if the DCOM-rights are adjusted correctly.
- Could not create "User Listener Mailslot". Mailslot: \\.\mailslot\PSMS_To Error : 800700B7, Cannot create a file when that file already exists.
Cause: The hpmup081.bin process activated by the HP driver takes over the Printserver's mailslot handles and does not release them again. If these mailslots are already occupied, the Printserver cannot start up.
Workaround: End the hpmup081.bin process in Task Manager and then restart the Printserver. As a permanent solution, install version 4.7.2+ of the HP Universal driver. The new version explicitly fixes this problem.
