What is the Japan Post customer barcode?
The Japanese postal barcode, Japan Post's customer barcode, is a 4-state code that senders print on letters and postcards for sorting machines. It holds the 7-digit postal code, an address number from block, house and room numbers, and a check character.
Bulk letters and business reply mail
Japan Post takes 1% off barcoded standard-size letters and private postcards posted 1,000 or more at once, alike in shape and weight, with bulk, deferred or meter payment.
Business reply mail must carry its assigned number as a customer barcode. Sorters read it to put letters in delivery order.
Size, ink and placement
Japan Post allows 8 to 11.5 points. At 10 points, long bars are 3.6 mm; 0.6 mm bars sit at a 1.2 mm pitch.
Print black or dark blue on white or light, plain paper of 50% reflectance or more, at a print contrast signal (PCS) of 0.5 or more. In a horizontal address, the barcode goes on its own directly under the addressee's name.
One code online, address extraction in TBarCode
Online, one code needs no account: GIF, PNG or JPG for free, SVG and higher print resolution with a plan. Mailing lists go into a data sheet after a free sign-in.
TBarCode SDK sets the bar height and derives the address number from Japanese address text. TFORMer Server prints address runs.
