FAQ Ordering: License Types

Which license type fits best to my needs? Which license do I need for web applications? What is the difference between a 1D and a 2D license? How can I license the product? Does TEC-IT charge royalties?

Difference between 1D and 2D Licenses (Product ID)

This is relevant for bar code software only: the license keys are differentiated according to the supported set of bar code symbologies. The creation of linear bar codes (Code39, Code128, EAN, UPC, RSS-14, RSS Expanded...) is enabled with a 1D license. Two-dimensional bar codes (PDF417, MaxiCode, Data Matrix, QR-Code, RSS-14 Stacked, RSS Expanded Stacked, Codablock F, Aztec Code) are enabled with a 2D license.

A 2D license includes the 1D license. In other words a 2D license unlocks 1D & 2D bar code generation!

License Types

In order to get an unrestricted and licensed version of the product, you need a license key. You can obtain this key directly from TEC-IT Datenverarbeitung GmbH or one of our resellers. The license key unlocks the downloaded demo version, no additional download is needed. The license type depends on your needs (see below) and the desired product functions (Product-ID).

The license key is based on the following values:

System ID (relevant only for Single Licenses)

Name of the licensee

Kind of license (e.g. Single, Site, Developer, Web/Server license...)

Number of licenses

1D- or 2D-License (relevant for bar code software)

Single License

This license permits you to use the product on exactly one computer system. The license key is coordinated with the System-ID of the target system. It is not possible to use the product on another computer system in an unrestricted way.

A Single License must not be used in server applications like Web-Servers or Citrix Servers.

Site License (ID=2)

This license permits the use of the Software on several computers within one site (however limited to a maximum of 250 concurrent installations or 250 concurrent users per license). Passing on of TBarCode to third parties or to other locations of the same enterprise is not permitted (also not as part of your own applications). Companies owning multiple locations (e.g. multinational companies) need either multiple Site-Licenses or a Developer-License.

A Site License must not be used in web server applications - use a Web License in this case.

Developer License (ID=3)

The owner of a Developer-License can redistribute the product as part of his application to third parties like customers and/or other sites of a company.

A Developer License is bound to a single developer. Each developer who is actively working with the product needs a developer license. A Developer- License is limited to 10000 redistributions or 10000 possible end users - whichever is higher.

Web or Server License (ID=3)

If you would like to use a product on a (web) server you need a web (or server) license (if applicable). Such a license permits the use of the software on one server for internet-, intranet and other server based applications. The number of total users (not concurrent users!) per license is limited to 10000. Each production server instance needs one license, this is also true on virtual machines.

For users of TBarCode: the ConvertToStream functions are licensed only with a web or server license. No run time fees are charged.

Other License Types

There are other licenses available, which vary according to the product. All available licenses are listed in the price list and in the license terms.

Roaylties

TEC-IT does not charge royalty fees for standard Single/Site/Developer/Server Licenses.
